Does your belt move around when you dance? – Perfectly Fitting Costume Guide 2/3

3 Perfectly Fitting Belt Tips

Welcome back to the Perfectly Fitting Costume Guide!

In the first part of this Guide, you saw Part 1: 10 ways to make your belly dance bra work.

So you’ve got many ways to make sure your bra looks nice on you.

Now what about your belt?

To me, there’s nothing more frustrating than noticing my belt is way off centre while I’m dancing, or worse… in a photo taken during performance that’s shared on Facebook! 🙁

So in this video – Part 2 of the Perfectly Fitting Costume Guide – I’ll share with you 3 belt tips from my workshop, Belly Dance Costume Workshop. These are things that I think every dancer must know before making or purchasing a bedlah belt. These tips will improve your belt fitting so much and you’ll worry less about your costume on stage. Let’s get started!

3 Perfectly Fitting Belt Tips

Belt Tip #1: Your belt should sit above the top of your thighs
Thick belt moves when you move

One of the reasons why the belt moves around is because when you lift your legs, your belt gets pushed and it either goes up or shift to whichever direction is easiest to go.

So make your belt thin around the thigh areas by making a thin belt or make the bottom line to curve up. This way, your belt will not be in the way of your legs, and it’ll more likely to stay where it is.

Belt Tip #2: Your belt should have curves (like your body!)

When you lay your belt on the floor, your belt should either lay curved like the top image, or have a little height like the second image, or better yet, both.

Like bra cups, the costume belt sits on the curves of our body, so a well-fitting belt is a belt that sits on our curves perfectly.

Belt Tip #3: The front of your belt should have a dip

Our belly has this beautiful outline that dips down at the centre, so your belt should mimic the shape. If you have a very flat tummy, you may be able to get away with a straight belt, but in many cases, the curve in the front of the belt elongates the appearance of your torso, creating a beautiful, long belly to show off your belly rolls. 😉 If you are worrying about a muffin top, the curved belt can minimize that as well.

I’ve created a checklist for making and buying a belt with these tips on it for you to download. Go ahead and download from the below link.
