3 Big Announcements (hint: first-ever… scholarship!)

BDCW Belly Dance Costume Workshop

The weather is getting warmer, and it’s time to think about costumes for summer performances!

Or in you’re in the southern hemisphere, think about winter holiday performances 😉

Either way, now is a good time to start making costumes for the upcoming season.

So in that spirit, I have 3 big announcements for you today.

Announcement #1…

Enrolment of the Belly Dance Costume Workshop is Opening on May 20, 2016!

There, I said it!

It’s always nerve-wracking to announce the BDCW enrolment date, because I’m making myself accountable to have everything ready by that date.

BUT I’m really excited about this release of the BDCW – more than ever if that’s even possible – because I’m doing a lot of new, fun & educational things this time around, so the workshop launch is going to be like a big event! 😀

You’ll see what those “new things” are in the coming weeks. If you are interested in hearing about them, be sure to sign up for my newsletter!

Okay, so I’m going to share with you a few of the “new things” here today.

Announcement #2…

BDCW Teaser Video is Here!

I’m super excited about this! 😀

I knew you’d want to see what you get inside the BDCW before you commit to it, so we created a short, teaser video.

And you’ll see a video with more detailed information about the BDCW next week. To make sure you get to see it, sign up for my newsletter here!

Lastly, but not the least… in fact the biggest announcement of all today. Here’s announcement #3.

First ever… Sparkly Belly Scholarship

Empowering belly dancers and helping them make their own costumes – that’s my mission at Sparkly Belly.

The Sparkly Belly Scholarship is for someone who really wants to learn how to make costumes that fit their uniquely beautiful body. The scholarship will help you achieve that by giving you a full tuition to my Belly Dance Costume Workshop (learn more about the workshop here or in the teaser video above).

It’s going to be fun, and you’ll have a new, full costume, custom made to your size (by you!) this summer. 🙂

But this is NOT a giveaway. You need to commit to learning and making a costume, and I would like to get to know you and guide you through the process.

Alright, so here are the requirements:

  • You’re a Sparkly Belly newsletter subscriber.
  • You’re a beginner at sewing and making costumes – you may have some sewing experience, but have not made ‘real’ costumes before.
  • You have (or at least have easy access to) a sewing machine.
  • You’re committed to going though all 8 modules (34 videos) in the Belly Dance Costume Workshop and following the instructions to make a full 3-piece costume (bra, belt and skirt, all decorated) by August 2016.
  • You’re committed to providing me with weekly updates on your progress (photos and/or video) as well as feedback on the BDCW.

If you are interested, here’s how to apply:

  1. Sign up for the Sparkly Belly newsletter here if you haven’t already.
  2. Email me at mao@sparklybelly.com with the following information:
    • Tell me about yourself
    • Your sewing level & experience
    • Do you have (or have easy access to) a sewing machine?
    • Are you committed to going though all the lessons and making a full set of costume by August 2016?
    • Are you committed to providing me with weekly updates with photos and/or video?
    • Why do you want to make your own costumes?

The scholarship winner will receive the enrolment to the Belly Dance Costume Workshop (all modules, valued at $287 as of January 2016).

The application deadline is Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 4pm PST. The scholarship winner will be announced on the Sparkly Belly newsletter.

Good luck, and I’m looking forward to working with you 🙂

Thanks for reading, and keep sparkling!

P.S. Are you an experienced costume maker? Sorry, you won’t qualify for the scholarship, but you can help your dancer friends by sharing this post with them 🙂 Help them learn new skills!
