Are you Multilingual?

Do you speak a language other than English?

And do you want to help other dancers?

One of the requests I’ve been getting – especially on my YouTube channel – is providing subtitles for my Sparkly Belly tutorial videos.

But I speak Japanese and English only, and requested languages have usually been other languages like Spanish, Portuguese, French… – so I’ve been feeling helpless with this request 🙁

BUT recently YouTube added a translation contribution feature.

This basically allows anyone who has a Google account to contribute subtitles for any YouTube videos that have this feature enabled.

What does it mean?

It means 2 things.

1) I need your help!

2) If you know a language other than English, and if you want to help me help other dancers around the world, I’d love to invite you to contribute subtitles to my videos! 😀

There are many dancers in non-English speaking countries that want to create costumes based on Sparkly Belly videos but they can’t. You’ll be helping empower these dancers by using your talent!

How does it work?

YouTube made it very easy. 🙂

1. Go to the video you’d like to help with translation, and click on the gear icon at the bottom.

2. Select “Subtitles/CC”

3. Select “Add subtitles/CC”

4. Click “Select language” and find your language by typing it in the box.

5. Play the video and type in translation in the box. Click the “+” sign next to the box to add the subtitle.

You can edit the timing by moving the box under the video.

6. Once you’re finished, click on “Submit for review”. And you’re finished!

Once submitted, YouTube will review and approve your submission. And they add credit in the description box under the video (when multiple people contribute, they may only list one that contributed the most).

Even if you have time to do a few sentences, that’s really helpful! Other people can pick up where you left off.

So if you’ve got a minute, give it a try! It’s actually fun – I started translating in Japanese, and I feel so good being able to reach out to my people in a new way, and I’m learning a lot!

You can do any language – even if it’s not ones I listed above – because that will help dancers that speak your language.

And of course, I’d appreciate your help with any of my videos. Here are popular videos that subtitles will benefit a lot of people.
